Cisco Prime Infrastructure 3.1.0 Partial Collection Failure with ASA5510

Hi Guys,

Quick question and maybe if anyone have some idea why I'm getting Partial Collection Failure and these 3 different errors:

#1. feature sensor non ios

#2. Unable to collect neighbor device details using Cisco Discovery Protocol (is this because ASA doesn't support CDP? than  why Prime even looking?)

#3. Unable to collect IP Interfaces details.

I'm running virtual OVA Cisco Prime Infrastructure 3.0.1 on virtual NSXi server discovering my home lab. Just trying to put my hands on Cisco Prime and get some real time experiences. This is the only device I have trouble with every other devices and 100% discovered with out any errors. Also if I pull up Site Map it shows all my devices connected together by ASA is just floating in the "air" Any advice will help.

Thanks

ASAs have always been problematic in Prime Infrastructure. You cannot ever get the topology to show their proper connectivity.

CDP is definitely part of it as the ASA does not support CDP. However PI should be able to derive the connection based on ARP cache and MAC address table information - yet Cisco has not made doing so a priority.

Thanks for quick reply...

So the behavior I'm seeing is nothing unusual? Just making sure before I try to spend days solve something that couldn't be solved.

You're welcome.

That's correct - what you are seeing is completely typical.

Cisco made a few improvements with the SNMP MIBs on the later ASA software that's only available on the newer X series appliances but it still falls short of placing an ASA properly in a topology.

Thank you so much that saves me a bunch of headache and I can move on and learn more about Prime :-)
