To answer your question on LMS and Solaris 8: I would like to be honest with you. Actually, there is already a patch for CD-ONE 4the Edition. The patch is called "cw-cd-one-ed4-p1-sol.tar.Z" and can be downloaded from the following location on CCO:
http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cw2000-cd-one
Please NOTE that this patch will ONLY work for CMF 2.0 !!! So, do NOT install on any version below !!! That Patch should give you support for CD-ONE 4th edition on Solaris 8. LMS Component contains Device Fault Manager 2.0 (DFM) which has ability to monitor SNMP trap and syslog notifications.

No it is not possible to monitor sun servers with LMS 2.5 or above. If they send syslog messages to LMS these should be available in RME - Report - Report Generator - Syslog - Unexpected Device Report. And - afaik - that is all.
But if you are still using LMS 2.5 I would recommend to upgrade to LMS 2.6. You must first go to LMS 2.5.1 before ongoing to LMS 2.6 (read the docs for detail..)
the patches are available at
http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/cw2000/lan-planner.shtml
and to verify if you realy still have LMS 2.5 look at the doc in this thread:
