client naming issue on cisco WLC 2500

Qwerty11111

Hi,

i am having an issue with client usernames on our 2500 WLC.

clients username is listed as: host/computername.domainname.local

when it should be: username/computername.domainname.local

does anybody know why the username is replaced with the name "host"

Usernames appear when connected directly (ie using their own device and credentials)  the issue seems to arise when they use one of our devices connected to the domain.  While we can see the computer name, we need to be able to see the username aswell

Thanks

You can't show username if they're authenticated with computer name.

If you want to see username you will need to authenticate them by using user credentials instead of computer name.

Or you need to modify your Internet filtering by using Windows credentials, kerberos?

Thanks

Hi

The username field on WLC Monitor clients is based on the authentication made.

Why are saying that you should see username/computername ? Are you talking about corporate devices or user own devices?

If the WLAN is dot1x authentication, with computer authentication then you will not see any username as computer name is the username.

However, on this other case, when they authenticate with their own device, they need to authenticate with their credentials that's why you're seeing username.

Thanks

Thankyou for the response

These are corporate (school devices) so that makes sense.  Do you know if there is anyway to make the user's username shown rather than just host/computername.

The reason is our internet filtering uses the client names from the radius servers, so whenever somebody uses a school device then they are recorded as host.
