CNA 5.5 and http fail authentication after IOS upgrade

CNA 5.5 managing 3560G switches with IOS 12.2(35)SE5.

After upgrading 2 switches to IOS 12.2(53)SE2, CNA 5.5 or browser prompts for name/password for level 15 access, but entering correct credentials fails to connect.

Telneting to switch and using the same credentials allows level 15 login.

What new parameters have to be updated in the switch configuration to allow CNA 5.5 or browser to authenticate to switch?

I believe I resolved this by adding

ip http authentication local

to each switch's configuration.
