how to add an unmanaged switch to RV325

Hi, I surrender, LOL. I have several unmanaged switches here. I need more ports than the RV325 has. Everything is wired. Must be some fundamental thing. I cannot get an IP from the RV325 in DHCP mode to anything connected to a simple switch. Everything plugged right into the RV325 is fine. Is this a layer 2 /3 issue? if so, how to solve? And oddly, the printer will function plugged into a switch, but not a PC. Cable, crossover / straight ? either ? Must be something simple.

I think I got it. Using a 2nd RV325 as a switch. I set it to DHCP relay AND turned off the firewall...LOL.

no wan ports used, doesn't matter what port on either RV325. I am a computer guy / not network guy...but have about 70 targets on my network, 3000 feet of buried cat6A, 20 POE cams, 8 PCs, etc...free wifi for customers / horse riders....

This problem was killing me. I do have POE switches hundreds of feet from the main router and they are fine (and have a dumb switch plugged into one of the POE switches and it works fine)

Still have no clue why I can not just plug in a name brand dumb switch and it not work(obviously the router).

Anyway, been adding one system at a time, now 4 PCs on the 2nd RV325 is has firewall turned off and set to DHCP relay...and just plugged in random port to random port on main RV325 that is my DHCP router.

The cool thing is, I can still log into the 2nd RV325 DHCP relay router....I assigned it an IP.

hey
l2 most likely
is the unmanaged switch in vlan 1 or same vlan that everything is using wired LAN subnet
is the port connected from the rv325 to the unmanaged switch set as vlan 1 or vlan required and also in switch port mode
If everything is in vlan 1 or required vlan and the switch is set as vlan 1(required) too it should work as its all same subnet and it should be arp layer 2 not routing

a staright through standard ethernet should work as most devices understand MDIX and it can cross between straight through and crossover

is the printer dhcp or static ?
if dhcp are both receiving same subnet and gateway settings ? should be , try static too if dhcp is not working

no vlan. just a dumb switch, not configurable. I need more ports. I think most of my cables are "patch" labeled. Just normal Ethernet cables that you buy and use. I do have another rv325 here and am trying to use it as a switch....my first attempt had it as DHCP relay, it immediately corrupted the password on the primary router, had to reset.

Well, 2nd attempt to use another RV325 as a switch failed. Disabled DHCP, plugged into my other RV325 and plugged in one pc, worked great....plugged in a few other devices, everything plugged into the switch(rv325) failed...so will try something else.

3rd attempt, DHCP relay, again. no luck

Funny, PCs get an IP thru the 2nd RV325, but can not get to internet. I turned off the firewall on the primary router, made no difference. Will look at the firewall config on 2nd RV325/switch.

Ok quick question, how many RV325 involved here?

can you share what is that unmanaged switch, and what port it connected to RV325?

share that port screenshot for us to look. ?

if everything default VLAN 1 on RV325 ( what firmware it running ?)

How is your access rules on RV325 - make sure you have access rule allowed LAN for the same to work?
