Im seeing differences but I do not understand them (other than they are using different iOS):

switch10#dir flash:
Directory of flash:/

2 -rwx 616 May 29 2020 12:43:12 +00:00 vlan.dat
3 -rwx 1918 May 29 2020 12:50:10 +00:00 private-config.text
696 -rwx 2072 May 29 2020 13:06:57 +00:00 multiple-fs
5 -rwx 2891 May 29 2020 12:50:10 +00:00 config.text
6 drwx 512 Jan 19 2020 08:09:16 +00:00 c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-4.E8
694 drwx 512 Jan 19 2020 08:09:17 +00:00 dc_profile_dir

switch09#dir flash:
Directory of flash:/

3 -rwx 616 Mar 1 1993 00:04:00 +00:00 vlan.dat
4 -rwx 3350 Jan 11 2019 18:27:44 +00:00 config.text
5 -rwx 3096 Jan 11 2019 18:27:44 +00:00 multiple-fs
6 drwx 192 Mar 1 1993 00:07:27 +00:00 c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-50.SE5
561 -rwx 3829 Jan 11 2019 18:27:44 +00:00 private-config.text

I also do not know what dc_profile_dir and private-config.text are nor why they are different.

You can see the difference IOS on both the switches here if you get chance to upgrade another one to same like c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-4.E8

The other one is just lanbase -so limited features, depend on the license you have, if you like both works exactly the same feature i suggest upgrading.

switch10#dir flash:
Directory of flash:/

6 drwx 512 Jan 19 2020 08:09:16 +00:00 c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-4.E8

switch09#dir flash:
Directory of flash:/

6 drwx 192 Mar 1 1993 00:07:27 +00:00 c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-50.SE5

Thank you. That clears it up for me.

I was going through to take inventory of which iOS versions I have in play, and found this:
3 -rwx 9827106 May 4 2018 15:07:21 +00:00 c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-55.SE12.bin
5 drwx 192 Mar 1 1993 00:07:27 +00:00 c2960-lanbase-mz.122-25.SEE3
Is it safe to guess that the .bin file was an upgrade to the iOS and stored until it could be reloaded and installed, and that the file without the extension is the running iOS?

Sorry if I am double-dipping, please let me know if I need to start a new post for this.

5 drwx 192 Mar 1 1993 00:07:27 +00:00 c2960-lanbase-mz.122-25.SEE3

This matches my suggestion the switch "upgrade" was just a BIN file copied to the main flash directory and the HTML files were not unpacked.

So this particular switch is running off and older iOS still? If I unpacked the HTML files, would then see only c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-55.SE12, and neither c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-55.SE12.bin nor c2960-lanbase-mz.122-25.SEE3?

What would be the command to do that? I am assuming this would require a reload (downtime) but I am just trying to wrap my head around this. I will likely wait and research which iOS I should be using and update all as needed.

Post the complete output to the command "sh version".

Post the complete output to the command "dir flash:/c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-4.E8/html".

2960X probably is running only the BIN file in the main flash directory as oppose to the recommended method of using the TAR to unpack all the HTML files.
