Hi,

I have set up CiscoWorks in our location for LAN Management but it seems that it doesn't have any function to enable us set up remote console to our devices. I was wondering if CiscoWOrks does this functionality?

but in general I needed to know how I can setup remote console to my devices. in the events that a device (all cisco devices, routers and switches) stops responding to VTY I want to be able to remote console, Now at the I need to remote console to a Switch and change setup on that device or reload it but I cannot and VTY has stopped responding, its a CAT 3550 series switch and a very crucial device in my network. Thank you in advance for your help and support.

If I understand correctly that you currently have an issue with a CAT 3550 which is no longer responding to vty ports, the short term solution that I would offer is to have someone at the site where the 3550 is located to power cycle the 3550 and hopefully this will resolve the issue. As a longer term solution I would suggest that you provision and install a terminal server (frequently a 2600 router with async connection cables but can be done on other router models). The terminal server connects its async cable to the console of the router or switch to manage and uses reverse telnet to connect to the router or switch. The terminal server can provide access to multiple routers and switches at its location. This URL will give you information to get started with the terminal server:
