LMS 4.0 Performance Poller Error

A few of my devices are giving me errors on the LMS 4.0 Performance Link Ports Interface Utilization poller job. The error LMS is reporting is:

MIB VariableInstanceFailure StatusFailure CountLast Failed ReasonLast Failed
ifHCInOctetsTe1/2Permanent22No Such Instance - The specified instance is not availableFri, Oct 15 2010, 10:21:53 EDT

It's happening on several devices. For instance, the one above one is a Cisco 7609 (OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.864) running 12.2(33)SRB5a. Te1/2 is definitely there:

w18e-cr-01.sea#sh int desc | i Te1/2
Te1/2                          up             up       ***w18e-cr-02-sea Te1/2

Reachability status of the device indicates:

Ping Success
HTTP Failed
SNMPv1 Read Success
SNMPv2c ReadSuccess
SNMPv1 WriteFailed
SNMPv2c WriteFailed
SSHv1Failed
SSHv2Failed
TelnetSuccess

Performance is polling CPU just fine on this device.

Any suggestions?

Checking the CLI doesn't give you the full story.  Check the SNMP output, and make sure the ifHCInOctets and ifHCOutOctets are being returned successfully for this interface.  Make sure you use SNMPv2c or v3 to poll those objects.

Is there a way I can check the SNMP output from my LMS server (short of doing a packet capture for all traffic destined for the problematic host)?

I don't have SNMPv3 enabled on the target system. snmpwalk using v2c seems to work fine against the device - partial output below. Should I be concerned about the "Cannot find nodule" output?

I did just now up the Performance SNMP timeout to 10 seconds and 2 retries (from the defaults of 3 and 1).

You can do a packet capture of SNMP traffic to the affected device during a Performance polling session.  That will help determine why the object is returning noSuchInstance.

Hi Marvin,

I have the same issue.

Did you find a solution ?

Many thanks for your reply,

Elisabeth

Hello Marvin

Any solution for this issue?

I am facing the same issue on our 2960S switches. An SNMP walk from LMS is giving the correct results.

Would be very gratefull if you could help me on this one.

Best regards

Isaac
