LMS can not detect the switch stack member fails

Our customer is using LMS3.01. They have a couples of switch stacks comprising 4-9 3750G switches per stack. It is found that in the topology map of the campus manager, the switch stack would not change color when one of the member switch is power down. The switch icon in the map remains green even after we start the data collection. Is this normal ? In addition, if the failing switch is the master switch, then the LMS even can not receive the syslog and therefore there is not way to detect the master switch failure . Any workaround for this ?

What you are seeing is expected. Campus Manager is not a fault management application. As long as it can contact the device during its polling cycles (every two hours by default), then the device will appear green, and its links black.

If the stack as a whole goes down, then once the polling cycle passes (or Data Collection is run manually), Campus should mark that stack as red.

Campus Manager 5.1 (part of LMS 3.1) has integration with DFM which can receive stack failure traps. In that case, Campus can display an icon on the map indicating that DFM has found a fault with the device. You can then cross-launch to DFM to get the fault details.
