Meraki MX not working. Need to replace for router

I have this problem: Mi CISCO Meraki MX64 is not working properly and my whole infraestructure is CISCO. Meraki Connects to a Catalyst 3650 Switch, and provides VLANS and Policies. Since I need to replace the Meraki: How can I do this task with a simple Linksys Router? (Of course all policies and maybe vlans will be lost until I have my other MX64 replacement) Anybody can help? Thank you!

Hi @FRiverosMtz,

Replace your Meraki MX with another Meraki MX has the advantage that you can just move the configuration to the new one:

MX Cold Swap - Replacing an Existing MX with a Different MX

I think you are going to need to configure your Linksys from scratch (or the device you have chosen to replace your Meraki MX temporarily) to perform at least the minimum required features you need to provide communication to your network.

Cheers.

Hello Gustavo and thank you for your answer.
Indeed the definitive solution will be to replace mi Meraki. The Problem is that CISCO will send in their times and not in mine (Sadly). So, what I did is to purchase a Linksys router in order to give service to my users, but I cannot provide Internet because my Catalyst is configured for Meraki. I do not know how to configure both: The Catalyst and the Linksys so they can communicate and provide the internet… by chance… would you know how to do it, and if so, would you help me?

Thank you very much. Have a great day!

Hi @FRiverosMtz,

You probably don't need to modify the Catalyst configuration but understand how the Catalyst and the Meraki were communicating so you can configure the Linksys properly.

There are different things you need to check, a quick summary of the ones I can think are:

- The WAN IP on the Linksys. Does the Linksys can communicate to the Internet?

- The LAN IP on the Linksys. Can the Linksys communicate with your Catalyst?

- Does the Catalyst have different VLANs or all it is configured as a "plain" network where your hosts are on just the default Vlan. If you are working with different VLANs, probably you need Static Routes on the Linksys.

In this situation, there is no way around but to have a good understanding of how the Catalyst and Meraki devices are configured to communicate and configure the Linksys accordingly.

I and the community can help you, please let us know on which part of the process are you stuck and give us specifics.

Cheers.

Hello Gustavo and thank you again so much!

I believe i have to tell you that i'm not in any way experienced with cisco in the technical way, so i'm counting with your patience if i may.

Regarding your questions:

-YES, the Linksys router can communicate with the WAN (I get the IP address as static from my ISP), but I can't tell if the linksys can connect to the Catalyst other than the green led that shows they are connected.

-The Catalyst actually works with VLANS as you say, I do have VLans that separate the Wireless clients and the wired clients as well as the vpn clients.

I don't know which more specifics is needed, but if you ask me I can answer anything I know more than gladly.

I know is terrible to deal with users like me, but believe me when I say that i'm desperate to solve this huge problem and i'll do wethever you ask me to in order to get my users back in business. Thank you again.

Hi @FRiverosMtz,

- Can a ping from the Linksys hit the Internet?

In the Linksys WebGUI, go to Administration > Diagnostics > Ping Test and start a ping to 8.8.8.8

- What is the IP address that has been set to the LAN network on the Linksys?

In the Linksys WebGUI, go to Setup > Basic Setup > Network Setup > Router IP and share what is the IP address and subnet mask.

- On the Catalyst side, what is the configuration on the port that connects to the Linksys?
