Preventing loops

Not applicable

Hi there,

i'm new into this "Cisco World" and i have some

questions about "helping" our network.

I'm working in a school board, and we have "dummy"-like switch (D-Link, TrendNet, NetGear...) connected to C2900XL ( on C2950 and C3500XL too...) ports and often, children have fun un-plugging hosts (PC, printers...) and plug it directly into the wall. It's sure that it make's a loop everytimes.

I've searched but not found the way to disable the port when a loop is found.

I've read that, because BPDU is not supported on "low" management switch, it cannot be used.

A'm y right ???

And, i've read too that there is a way to manage number of MAC adresses that the port can "accept".

Can you help by at least giving me the URL so i can

read about it?

Thanx in advance,

be sure that everything will help.

Hi,

Do a search in the forums for "proactive notification for STP loops". I have a similar problem as you and a good solution is to use storm control. It will shutdown & trap on ports that exceed preset broadcast(unicast/multicast) storm levels.
