Problem with SNMP on three equal Switche WS-C4510R

Hello Cisco Support Community

I hope anyone can help us.

We have got three WS-C4510R in our company with equal Supervisories and we updated the IOS versions on Saturday, so that all IOS-versions are the same. But now, one of the three has a new OID number over SNMP for "Chassis Temperature Sensor" and we don't know why. It deliveres since Saturday no information to our monitoring systems because of the different OID. On the Cisco web page there exists no number enterprises.9.9.13.1.3.1.3.11 .

I attatched some informations at the end of this thread. I hope somebody can help me.

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Sven

The bolded 11 & 1 are not new OID numbers. Each is the unique* SNMP ifIndex number corresponding to a hardware entity (both happen to be "Chassis Temperature Sensor" in this case). Here's an article that explains it:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk648/tk362/technologies_tech_note09186a0080157626.shtml

"* Unique" as in, to each catalyst 4500.

Since your post seems to say MRTG was working fine with the 4500s before the IOS upgrade, I'd venture a guess that you haven't had "snmp-server ifindex persist" configured on them. Without that config, the SNMP ifIndex changed as a result of the reboot following the IOS upgrade. If that's the case, you should configure that, if the new IOS code supports this global config. Of course, there's still the one-time update to MRTG to make it aware of the new ifIndex numbers.
