reporting needed to know if OS in linux-based

I'm writing an article for the linux gazette and asked about the appliance OS.

One person thought it might be Linux but wasn't sure if it was based on the 2.4

or 2.6 kernel.

Could you verify the info for me and -- at a high level -- tell me how the OS is

secured???

This could be a major section of my article, but I do need the info by tonight

to make the deadline. I'm requesting this info form several of the appliance

vendors fro the RSA show.

As far as I know, it is linux with 2.4 kernel.
