Restoring backup

I am new to networking in general, as such I don't really know what I am doing exactly.

I logged into the SGE2000 web interface, and decided I wanted to start fresh by doing a factory reset, so I could learn how to setup the switch. Before doing so, I made an HTTP text backup of the running configuration so that if I screwed something up, I could fix it.

Now I can't get an internet connection over my network, and when I try to restore the running configuration, I find that I can't.

I went to admin > file management and selected "http", then downloaded the running config to text file.

Now I can't figure out how to restore the configuration to what it was before. I tried to copy the file, but that did nothing. All of my research keeps saying I should have done a backup using a TFTP server, but why would Cisco allow a backup option that cannot be restored?

I reset the switch after coying the files to the running config, nothing. Then I tried to copy the running config to the startup config, reset, and nothing.

What is going on?
