router high cpu utilization

Hello,

We always experience high CPU utilization on our Cisco 3825 and notice a slowdown of the processes.

Though we have not seen an effect on the service yet.

By checking router#sh  processes cpu, we get 100%. This will go on for a couple of days

and suddenly would drop and become normal again.

By checking the output bandwidth (85Mbps), it's below the capacity of our internet which is 600M.

And the interface is a GigE port which should be able to carry more than 85Mbps of bandwidth.

Does anyone know how we can check what causes the occassional high CPU utilization on our router?

Is it a defect on the unit? Is it running out of memory? Do we need to upgrade the unit to higher capacity of memory?

600 Mbps on a 3825 router????  

I don't think 3825 is designed to work with that kind of bandwidth.  More like 180 Mbps in a single direction (and no encryption) or 90 Mbps upload & download.  Read THIS.

Is there an updated list that shows the new 44XX series routers, too?

Seriously, 7200 router is a different beast to a 3925 router.

None.  The team that used to update the routerperformance.pdf file got dissolved back in 2010.
