Hi everyone,

To all engineers who love cisco CLI, what is the possible solution to this below error

Key exchange failed.
No compatible MAC. The server supports these MACs: hmac-sha2-256-etm@openssh.com,hmac-sha2-512-etm@openssh.com,hmac-sha2-256,hmac-sha2-512

Any possible solution will be appreciated.

kind Regards,

Michael

Hi Amutua 17

I had the same problem on the 9000 Series Switches, I don't know exactly why it gives this error but I just upgraded SCRT to version 9.5 and the equipment already appeared in the command line.

Hope this helps.

Hi amutua17 and  jonasmariquele19

Hi You will get these kind of errors in SecureCRT only not no Putty or teraterm try to login, In secureCRT you need to delete the ssh.ini file AppData\Roaming\VanDyke\Config and restart the SSH services

this didn't resolve the poblem.

Has anyone found the solution for this.

Have you tried upgrading SCRT to current version?

1: Right click and go to properties of the IP address you are trying to ssh to

2: Click ssh2 and go to Advanced below.. on the right you have two that shows Cipher and and below that MAC. Under MAC look for SHA2-512-EtM and SHA2-256-EtM and check them.

3: Then hit OK and then try it should work.

@senthilr Thanks, your solution solved the issue

I needed to upgrade SecureCRT to version 9.5.2 to make it work otherwise it won't work.

Thanks for sharing your experience with this issue.

Try to add these MAC to the switch:

ip ssh server algorithm mac hmac-sha2-256
