I have a router running on IOS 12.2. Can anyone advise me what security protocols i should use to protect from attacks?

12.2 release was active before the launch of the first iPhone. Trying to put it to use in today's network is not recommended. Attacks are getting more and more sophisticated and so, please consider staying current.

If it is for non-commercial use, SSh (was barely introduced) instead of Telnet. Use a k9 image, assuming you have enough memory to support the selected image.

Use http://www.cisco.com/cisco/support/notifications/addedit.html?notiId=53041

to be alerted for the various security issues and field notices for what you have and decide if it is worth your efforts to keep that old router/software in operational state.

I hope this helps ... Palani.
