Our company is going to have to power down all the servers in our data center / computer room because of required electrical maintenance.  What steps should I take ahead of time to prepare for this, we have the below equipment

Core sw, edge switches, wireless controller, firewall

  1. Save the config.
  2. Export all the config externally.
  3. Manually power down the appliances BEFORE the main power drops.
  4. During the power up state, do not be in a hurry to power up the appliances.  Wait for 30 seconds (up to 2 minutes) before manually powering up the appliances.

Before you shut down anything, make sure you have a good copy of the configuration for each device. After that, I would shut down the devices that have an on/off switch, and after that the ones with no switch (unplug the power cord).

 - In practice and or where the important Intranet services are running , there will probably not a unique answer to this question , look at it from a servicing viewpoint to start with.
