I'm running IOS 15.5(2)S1c
I get an "error in authentication password" error when trying to configure the following:
snmp-server user testUser testGroup v3 encrypted auth sha <anyvalue> pri aes 128 somePasword
1. Using the string without "encrypted" is not an option.
2. I've tried multiple different entries for <anyvalue> with no luck. I thought I found the answer here https://ieoc.com/discussion/27416/snmp-v3-encrypted which indicated it needed to be entered as a hex, but still no luck. Same error.
3. Also tried it without the "pri aes 128 somePasword" (although it shouldn't matter) but get the same error.
Any ideas?
Thanks

There is a known defect for AES 128 and 256 for SNMP v3. Are you running into this: See https://quickview.cloudapps.cisco.com/quickview/bug/CSCvi21956

I don't believe so. The bug refers to AES 192 & AES-256 . I'm using 128. Also, it doesn't point to an issue with configuring it but rather an issue once it's running.
Am I missing something?
Thanks

SNMPv3 AES 256 connectivity issues are fixed in 3.4:
