Unable to Create Monitor Session for Interface on 7606

Hello-

I have a legacy device (7606-s) that has an monitor session configuration on the uplink interface to the WAN. It's working perfectly fine. However, I'm unable to add the same configuration to another 7606-s. Both routers are the same platform with the same code 12.2(33). The monitor session configuration is relatively simple:

Router(config)# monitor session 1 source interface Gi-1/1

Router(config)# monitor session 1 destination interface Gi-2/2

The router the command above is not working on I get a error saying: This command is not supported on this platform (paraphrasing).

So I look at the module the interface is on since I saw other forums say the interface has to be a switchport to work. However, the module for each platform is the same:

7600-SIP-400

SPA-2XOC3-ATM

SPA-2X1GE

I tested this in the lab and it worked fine. I run a command (show interface gi1/1 capabilities) to make sure SPAN is good. I tried running the same command on the router that monitor session isn't working and got an error saying "Not available for WAN ports or VLAN interfaces".

I'm confused. What am I missing? Since the 7600 is EOL and EOS I can't find too much support. My Cisco rep. has been awesome with the support, but I just wanted to reach out to the Cisco world to see if anyone else has experienced this before.

Thanks in advance,

Tony

Hello-

I figured out the issue, apparently the SPAN configuration won't work on a interface that is on this SPA:

7600-SIP-400
SPA-2XOC3-ATM

SPA-2X1GE

The SPAN configuration worked on the following SIP's:

WS-X6748-SFP (Switch module)

7600 ES+

When you use a destination interface on the same switch as your switch we call it SPAN PayGoOnline, when the destination is a remote interface on another switch we call it RSPAN (Remote SPAN). When using RSPAN you need to use a VLAN

First and foremost, thanks for the prompt response. I truly appreciate that.

Second, I understand the term SPAN. I didn't phrase this issue that in hopes not to confuse anyone with spanning tree. I tried being as specific as possible.

Lastly, the destination interface is on the router (not switch). The title of this discussion says 7606. Nevertheless, when I try to add the command for the destination or source interface I get an error saying the "command is not support by this platform".

Thanks,
Tony
