Unable to get lightweight APs booted

BDH
Level 1
Level 1

Hi,

I don't have (much) experience with cisco APs, but still I need to get a few AP's linked to a WLC - that's being managed by one of our partners.

So I received a few AP's and I factory reset them by holding the mode button, connecting PoE and releasing when the console told me to. So far so good, but now 2 of the 3 AP's are stuck in the "AP" menu and the 3th one doesn't apply any config + says "%LWAPP-3-CLIENTERRORLOG: Config load from flash failed."

Below is a copy of the dirs:

Autonomous IOS file for the 2600/3600/2700/3700 can be found HERE.

To upload the IOS to the AP (in ROMMON), use the following method:

flash_init
load_helper set IP_ADDR <IP ADDRESS> set DEFAULT_ROUTER <GATEWAY> set NETMASK <NETMASK> tftp_init tar -xtract TFTP://<COMPUTER IP ADDRESS>/FILENAME.tar flash:

Thanks! I'll try this and update here as soon as I know the outcome

We recently bought a few plants in different countries => this AP thing I'm trying is for one of those plants => We don't have a service contract for these AP's, but looks like it is required to be able to download this software. Do you know another way how I can download the .tar file?

IMPORTANT:  Before engaging TAC, make sure to know what exact firmware version you want to download.

  1. Read this:  Multiple Vulnerabilities in Wi-Fi Protected Access and Wi-Fi Protected Access II
  2. Scroll down to the "Customers Without Service Contracts" section.
  3. Read the first two paragraphs very carefully.

Thanks for the help already. I called cisco and it looks like they don't want to help -> they don't want to provide me the software without a contract.

A colleague of mine found some image version he had "lying around". So I tried with that. Thanks to your help in your previous comments, I managed to get the image on the AP (it's again an 1141 image ). Below is the result:

The AP is a 2600 and you are forcing it to boot an IOS meant for an 1140.  It will not work.

For a 2600, it needs to boot an IOS specifically for a 2600/3600/2700/3700.

Do you know if there's a way to download the firmware/OS file from another existing AP in our network? Maybe through WinSCP or something?

In my humble opinion, your are only the second person I have known unable to get Cisco Entitlements Team to let "through the barricades" (and talk to TAC about publishing the firmware) using the method I have described above.

Other people I have helped were successful in getting TAC to publish the firmware without the need for a valid Service Contract.
