I have an old Cisco 2960. It was chained to an EnGenius switch. Cisco > EnGenius > Host. If I connect the Host to the 2960, I cannot ping to or from it. This persists even if I remove the port from the local VLAN, 192.168.1.0. Port is set for access and configured with the same ip as it had before with the same default gateway, 192.168.1.1. 192.168.1.1 is on a trunk port. I checked access lists and there are none. I'm pretty novice and have no idea why the host won't communicate with the switch.
I have a third switch and I can communicate with the Host on other switches, just not this switch.

Hi
One of my first thoughts is to check the native vlan between the 2960 and the other switch, this is a trunk link from your post, and if so there may be a different native vlan on the 2960 (assuming that the access port the host is plugged into is not in a separate vlan) to the connected switch, or simply that the connected switch does not support untagged packets on a trunk link.

We do not have enough detail to be able to understand the problem or to provide good suggestions. As a start would the original poster provide the configuration of the 2960, tell us which port the host is connected to on the 2960, and provide the output of show interface status from the 2960.
Also please tell us the IP address, mask, and default gateway of the host and post the output of arp -a from the host.
