We plan on upgrading our Prime Infrastructure from 2.2 to 3.0
As discussed in this thread already, no additional licenses are required. We can just upgrade to the new version.
https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12756536/upgrade-prime-22-30-what-happens-our-licenses
Thing is, this installation of Prime was done years ago from employees that dont work here anymore. We have several other minor issues with our installation that wants me to start over and do a fresh installation with the PI 3.0.
In this upgradeguide, the deployment of a new OVA template is described:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/3-0/quickstart/guide/cpi_qsg.html
With this approach, we'd have to create a backup from the old installation and restore it in the new virtual appliance. The problem is, we dont want to restore all the faulty configuration. Is there a way to only restore the "license" part without the rest of the configuration?
Thanks and best regards

No but you could re-initialize the db after the migration . using
# ncs db reinitdb
This will quasi re-initialize prime, and keep your license ; check this afterwards first in the relevant Prime administration menu's

Just a feedback from my side:
The ncs db reinitdb command worked, but there were certain sections in the prime administation interface that couldnt be loaded anymore. there was just a red error sign.
I ended up installing prime infrastructure 3.2 from scratch and importing the licenses directly without a configuration import. this worked well.
So i recommend going that way if you still have the original license files from cisco.

If you are entitled to upgrade, you must be under a support contract.
In that scenario, you can just open a TAC case and request they rehost your licenses to the new server's vUDI (virtual Universal Device Identifier).
