Uptime of ASR 9006

folks,

would like some feedback on an ASR 9006 that's been up for almost 12.5+ years. The box is primary and plays a central role in this particular setup.  However, there are random iBGP neighbors that are down recently, for what seems to be no reason. I'm thinking of a reload.. which could be risky..

XXXXXXXXXXX uptime is 12 years, 32 weeks, 5 days, 13 hours, 47 minutes
System image file is "bootflash:disk0/asr9k-os-mbi-4.2.0.CSCtz65963-1.0.0/0x100000/mbiasr9k-rp.vm"

cisco ASR9K Series (MPC8641D) processor with 4194304K bytes of memory.
MPC8641D processor at 1333MHz, Revision 2.2
ASR-9006 AC Chassis

thoughts?

WOW! 12.5+ uptime! Impressive!

That being said, when you mentioned that this router "plays a central role", doest this mean that you have another one acting as a standby? This could be helpful in case the long running one has a problem and doesn't boot.

Whatever you do, don't reboot it using the power switch. I've seen networking equipment running for a long time that once loosing power by hitting the power switch, didn't power on.

yep :).. ya the plan was use the reload command, and not power cycle it completely.yes, there's a standby, but it's currently running as active since all ospf and iBGP internal neighbors are down...ie: the standby unit --> is active. i don't think i have a choice.. i'll just need to schedule a reload and hope for the best.

I don't think you will have a problem only by rebooting. Plan a maintenance window big enough in case you will have to do some troubleshooting. Good luck.

Do not use the "reload" command.  Think about performing a cold-reboot:  Turn off the power, remove all the power supplies (residual power), wait for the PS fans to stop spinning, re-insert the power supplies and energize.

Have a look at Field Notices that affect the chassis and supervisor cards.
