Hello Everybody

I'm new with Cisco ASA and have a problem with the license. I would like to activate my Cisco ASA 5506-X Control License on my new Cisco ASA 5506-X. But the problem is when i try to get the licence over the cisco.com/go/license site, they ask me for the "License Key:" but i have no idea where i can find them. i looked in the asdm but i just found the permanent activation key and i need something what looks like a these: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/firepower-management-center/200376-Obtain-the-License-Key-for-a-Firepower-D.html

i got the PAK from my boss but i guess i'm missing something. What do I need to license my ASA?

Sorry for my bad English..

Can someone help me?

Thanks.

The Control License is for the FirePOWER service module. The license key comes either from ASDM (if doing local management) or FirePOWER Management Center.

From your ASDM screenshot, it appears that module has not been setup on the ASA (or else it's being managed by FMC).

When you manage a FirePOWER service module with ASDM, there is a separate FirePOWER configuration tab (as highlighted in the document you referred to) with its own license section. That's where you would find the necessary license key. That tab only shows up when you have done the initial cli setup and your ASDM is able to reach the management interface and link to the module to manage it.

Thank you very much for your fast answer. I thing I got it but now i have a question about the module. It is at all possible that my ASA run FirePower? How can I setup that module which you described? Is there an Article exactly for the ASA 5506-X ?

Thank you for your effort!

All ASA 5506, 5508 and 5516-X are shipped with the FirePOWER Service Module. It is a software module and can technically be uninstalled (although doing so is an uncommon step).

Please refer to the Quick Start Guide here:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/asa/quick_start/5506X/5506x-quick-start.html

It is quite detailed and specific and following it carefully will lead to a successful setup.

Hi Marvin,

Just want to ask. Because my firewall asa 5506-x is already up and running for 6 months but I haven't installed the Firepower Service module. Is it my 6 months subscription on firepower is being wasted for 6 months?. I hope you get my point. Thank you so much.

Michelle,

FirePOWER IPS subscriptions and license terms (for URL filtering and AMP features) begin at time of purchase -  whether or not you start using them right away.
