I have got a new ASA 5510 with no previous experience.
I am trying to access the ASDM by going to https://192.168.1.1/. However the problem is much basic I can not ping the management port of the Cisco ASA 5510 and my computer is not getting a IP address from the DHCP pool of the management port. I had connected my computer using a switch between the ASA 5510 and my computer and also directly using a cross cable but it did not work.

Can you put the command "no management-only" under the managements interface.
I hope you also have the "dhcpd" commands on the ASA for the dhcp.
And also check if you have any "debug icmp trace" debugs when you try to ping the interface.
I hope it helps.

Is the management port in an "UP" state? Please provide the output of "show interface management0/0".
To access the ASA via ASDM, it needs to be allowed:
http server enable
http
Have you generated the crypto key?
crypto key generate rsa modulus 1024

I connected the ASA 5510 using the console cable. In hyperterminal "show interface management0/1" gave an output
Error: Invalid Input Detected at '^' marker
Please excuse my lack of basic knowledge. I am not familiar with the CLI would appreciate your help.

Do a sh run interface, management is not 0/1 is 0/0.
