ASA 5510 license upgradation

Hi Members,

I have a ASA5510 firewall running IOS version 7.0(8). I have base licensed installed on this devices. I want to upgrade its IOS from 7.0(8) to higher version so that i can use SSL VPN Anyconnect feature. I want to know few details like.

1. Can i upgrade IOS from 7.0(8) to 8. 3 and higher version directly or do i need to go in a sequence?

2. Do need to purchase new license key for higher IOS versions or my existing license (Base license of 7.0(8) existing) will work after upgrade?

3. I know that for SSL Anyconnect i will have to purchase license key but not sure if existing license will work for other features like Remote and Site to Site VPN.

Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

krish

This is the path you should follow:

7.0(8)--7.2--8.0--8.2--8.3  *try to use the latest version of the train*

I would recommend and upgrade to 8.4(5) instead of 8.3, the last one is known by its multiple software bugs.

You don't need to get a license for the new version, it will remain the same.

And finally, for IPSec VPN (both site-to-site and remote access IPSec VPN client), there are no extra license required as it is included in the appliance.

For SSL VPN, there is default of 2 license, and if you require more than 2 SSL VPN Client connections, then yes, you would need to purchase extra license (either the AnyConnect Essentials license or the AnyConnect Premium license depending on what you need).

Hi Jocamare,

Thanks for your prompt response.

I will fowllow the upgrade process from lover to higher IOS versions. Thank you for information about licensing, i was stuck with that.

I have problem while trying to download IOS files from download center. I do have contract ID and CCO ID but still files are not being downloaded. Could you plese suggest what could be causing the problem?

Thanks,

Krish

Do you get a specific error when trying to download or it just isn't letting you do it?

I would suggest to contact your account manager and mention the situation to him, he will know what to do.
