ASA 5510 Problem with Compact Flash

Hello friends :)

My company has got ASA 5510 without CF. I inserted a few CF but without any success.I tried to use CF from my ASA 5505, too. I tried to use format, and fsck, but everything was the same. Can I use the same image from ASA 5505 on ASA 5510 ?

An asa 5510 cannot run a 5505 image.  I suggest you boot into ROMMON and load the asa 5510 image from a tftp server.  Once the ASA is booted format the CF and then copy the ASA5510 image into flash and configure the image to boot from using the "boot system" command.

Hi, I tried via tftp,  I found image for ASA 5510, and I uploaded via tftp, but I can not copy from tftp to flash memory. I tried fsck, and format, but without any succuess.

Why are you unable to copy from tftp to flash? are you getting an error?

Hi,

You can boot ASA5505 image on ASA5510,5520, 5540 as well till version 9.1.6/9.1.7 as of now(9.2.x of 5505 is made available for 5505 and other -x series ASAs).

It looks like a corrupt compact flash or may be you need to format this from ASA5505 itself and then use.

or

Try to place this Flash again on ASA5505, load the image let say asa825-k8.bin and then see if this works on ASA5510.

It looks like CF got corrupted.

Hope it helps.

Hm, now I think ASA has problem with CF reader. This is only normal  reason. Can I format CF on Cisco Router 2801. Does both of  the Cisco devices use the same file system?

Hi,

I believe not. You would receive the bad magic error i guess. You could try that though.  However try the one i mentioned earlier.

There is your problem...not enough space.

Have you upgraded your flash to 2 GB?  This is the recommended size if you intent to run an ASA version that is 8.3 or higher.
