Hello
I have a couple of ASA 5510 firewalls configured and working. I'm now charged with configuring the IPS modules. I'm having to do this remotely. Since the IPS module hasn't been configured I'm guessing it's on 192.168.1.2 with the default username/password.
I'm told that the workstation I access from connects through a switch to the ASA and to the IPS.
I've set the ASA management port to 192.168.1.1. I can't ping 192.168.1.2 - not sure I'm supposed to be able to. In the ASDM, Configure IPS prompts for an IP address. Entering 192.168.1.2 returns "IP address of the management port is unreachable".
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello Chris,
If you are configuring this first time, you access the IPS as follows
1. login to the ASA
2. From ASA exec mode, type 'session 1'
3. it will ask for username and password ( default for both are cisco )
4.If you face issue on username & password you can reset the password as follows from ASAS exec mode
hw-module module 1 password -reset

Hello Christian,
After you get to the sensor#promtp can you enter the setup process?
Then apply the right IP address, default gateway, acl ,
Hope I understood your question.

Thanks.
Is there any way to do that from within ASDM? I'm having trouble telneting to it.

I now have CLI.
I have reset the password and got to a sensor# prompt.
ASDM still returns "IP address of the management port is unreachable".
