ASA 5516-X running FTD register to Firepower Management Center interface

I am converting my ASA's from ASA to FTD Version 6.3. After the conversion I am going to register the ASA's to a FirePower Management Console for administration. Do I need to use the MGMT interface to connect the ASA to the FMC or am i able to use one of the Data interfaces to manage it (Gig1/2)?

I tested setting the IP on Gig1/2 and setting it to "management only" and it wont seem to work, once i import the ASA to FMC is seems to wipe out the device. Just curious if you have to use the MGMT Interface to connect it.

FTD devices require use of a dedicated management interface for FMC management (and, by default, eventing). You cannot combine that function with a data interface.
