ASA 5525 End-of-Life date confusion

Hi,

I read a few EoL notices regarding ASA5525:

These documents contain three different "End of SW Maintenance Releases" date.

Which one is the correct if I the device covered by service-and-support contract?

What happens after this date till the "Last Date of Support" if a bug is found or a failure comes up? It stays unfixed?

Thanks

@pentekl after "End of SW Maintenance Release" date there are no new bug fixes, no software maintenance releases are any development from Cisco.

Even though an older ASA version 9.12 has a longer life, "End of SW Maintenance Release" date is Feb 2024.https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/security/asa-firepower-services/adaptive-security-appliance-9-12x-eol.html compared to ASA 9.14 which is March 2023.

Hi @pentekl,

There are multiple things that you need to consider when talking about EoL of a device.

First thing is that you care about HW - what is a last date of HW support (by when you'll be able to get RMA for device), which is displayed in first link you posted, so it will be by Sept 30 2025.

Depending on SW you are running on this device, you need to care also about ASA SW only, ASA+FPR SW, or FTD SW. If I'm not mistaking, last supported ASA SW for ASA5525 will be 9.14. This SW version is announced EoL by March 2025. For FPR services, you already saw notices in these 3Y notifications. For FTD, I believe last supported is v6.6.x, also by March 2025.

Kind regards,

Milos

Hi @Milos_Jovanovic,

Thanks for the quick answer. But what happens after the "End of SW Maintenance Releases" date? For exapmle if a bug is found in 9.14 after March 2, 2023. Will it stay unpatched?

Thanks,

László
