Hey, I have an ASA 5525, I have to asa image files loaded in flash
when I do a 'sho run' I do not see
boot system disk0:/asa825-k8.bin
but I know it's using this image because when I do 'sho bootvar' I see
BOOT variable = disk0:/asa825-k8.bin
When I attempt to change the image it's using I do:
no boot system disk0:/asa825-k8.bin
boot system disk0:/asa825-26-k8.bin
wr mem
reload
When it reloads it's still using asa825-k8.bin
When I do a 'sho bootvar' it shows
boot system disk0:/asa825-k8.bin;disk0:/asa825.26-k8.bin
So it took what I added but didn't remove what I deleted
I also tried 'clear configure boot' to clear the boot entries but that didn't work either
Any idea what I have to do??? It seems like it accepts my commands to clear the boot variable but doesn't actually do it

In addition to the boot variable commands, there is also the config-register value. the options for that are explained here: link.
On most Cisco devices (ASA included) the config-register value instructs the device whether to use a value configured in the startup-config as the system boot file or other options - such as first file on disk etc.
You can confirm your value with "show ver | i register".

You know what man, I rebooted my ASA and then suddenly all those boot system commands started to work. Weird...
