ASA-5545-IPS-K9 upgrade to ASA5545-FP-UPG

Need to check if we upgrade ASA-5545-IPS-K9 to ASA5545-FP-UPG what would be the smartnet (CON-SNT/CON-SNTP) which will cover hardware and technical support for both ASA-5545-IPS-K9 appliance and firepower services. I came to know from presales team on April 30, 2018 the ASA-5545-IPS-K9 will become an obsolete according to the EOL notification below

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/security/ips-4200-series-sensors/eos-eol-notice-c51-733186.html

Based on the resources, I found we need to have separate contract, one for ASA-5545-IPS-K9 as CON-SU3-A45IPS9 and another for ASA5545-FP-UPG as CON-SNT-ASD120 (CON-SNT-ASD120 will cover support for ASA5545-FP-UPG and firepower services). Don’t you think why would we need two service contract for one hardware.

Please kindly look into the same and suggest the best possible way to overcome this issue. Thank You.

Looking forward to your valuable response.

Hi Saurabh,

As for upgrading ASA-5545-IPS-K9 to ASA5545-FP-UPG need additional SSD drive, so CON-SNT-ASD120 covers only SSD drive and CON-SU3-A45IPS9 covers the ASA.

spoooster  Thanks for your proactive response :

I think once the upgrade from the ASA5545-IPS-K9 to ASA5545-FPWR-K9 (with FirePOWER services) is done the ASA itself would be regarded as ASA5545-FPWR-K9 and as such it should be covered CON-SNT-A45FPK9 (SNTC-8X5XNBD) for example.

On the matter of the SSD support contract - it is separate part of the ASA and it will come with it's own service contract. I think the those contracts can be merged into one eventually, however to be on the safe side, I am seeking help from cisco to revert on this query.

Regards

Saurabh
