ASA-CX SSD type

Hi all,

I have ASA 5512X and I'm trying to run CX features on it. but the problem is I don't have SSD drive in the chassis. how can I get one? is any kind of SSD drive compatible with cisco ASA-CX firewalls or i should order it from cisco only? what is the part number for that model?

thanks in advance for your help

You need to buy a Cisco SSD for this. The product ID is ASA5500X-SSD120= (ASA 5512-X through 5555-X 120GB MLC SED SSD (spare)).

You will also need a software subscription like ASA5512-AW1Y * (ASA 5512-X CX AVC and Web Security Essentials 1Year *)

Dear Marvin,

Sorry to indulge in this thread, but I have a similar concern and I want to run the IPS services as well. What will be the solutions if I want to run all CX, AVC, WSE and IPS in one ASA5512-X?

Regards,

Farhan.

Farhan,

It didn't used to be the case but in December 2013 Cisco added support for IPS on the CX module as part of the Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) services.

You can find the available licenses - which include IPS subscription -  on the product data sheet here (near the bottom of Table 4).

Dear Marvin,

As per the datasheet, I will be ordering the following for covering all subscriptions for one year:

ASA5512AWI1Y

Please advise.

Regards,

Farhan.

Hi Farhan,

the part number that you shared is for the feature subscription only. which means it does not cover the hardware.

so if you want to order the hardware as well, you need to choose a part number from the datasheet for the hardware

(Example: ASA5512-SSD120-K9 ) and then you need to order the subscription part number ASA5512AWI1Y. and that will cover every thing (hardware + 1 year subscription)

Dear Ibrahim,

Thanks for your prompt response. Yes sure without the hardware no suscriptions.

Regards,

Farhan.

As noted in your other thread here, the ASA (with SSD) plus NGFW subscription licenses plus SMARTnet support all neeed to combine to give you a fully functional system.
