ASA IPS license

Can anyone tell me, witch license need I buy, to receive all the IPS signatureupdates and upgrades for IPS in ASA?

Just got back the information today (sorry for the delay).

The IPS License for signature updates is included in the IPS ervice contract for the SSM card (and possibly ASA chassis when purchased as a bundle).

The IPS service contract goes by the name "Cisco Services for IPS". My understanding is that it includes the support generally covered by SmartNET as well as the IPS License for Signature Updates.

My understanding is that if you purchased the SSM in a bundle with the ASA, then you can buy a single contract that covers both the ASA and the SSM.

(Disclamer: This is 3rd hand information, so you will want to confirm all of this with your Cisco Sales Representative to ensure you are covered)

Or you can buy a separate contract to cover the ASA itself (presumably a SmartNET contract) and a Cisco Service for IPS to cover just the SSM.

If you did Not purchase direct from Cisco, but instead purchased through a Cisco reseller/partner, then you will need to contact that Cisco reseller/partner.

Often the reseller/partner will have their own service contracts to augment/replace the Cisco standard contracts.

In these situations a special Cisco Service for IPS contract has been created for their use a resell to the end customer.

You would need to contact your reseller/partner directly for that information.

There are also contracts that begin with "SP" instead of "CON" that I believe may be specifically geared to Service Providers. If you are a Service Provider contact your Cisco Sales Representative for more information.

Once you have purchased the correct part number, then ensure that the serial number of your SSM is linked to your contract ("show version" on the SSM CLI will show you the serial number).

You can then request the IPS License for that serial number.
