ASA license question

I have a customer that has an asa5505 who purchased the ASA5500-SSL-25 license.

He is now going to replace/upgrade to a 5510.

Can he just install the license on the new ASA, providing that he gets some trade-in on the 5505

or

Does he have to purchase it all over again.

I would likt to think it is transferable since it is not platform specific.

Unfortunately license is not transferable as it is tied into the serial# of the ASA. License is only transferable if RMA is requested for the same ASA.

In this case, they would need to purchase the license again for the new ASA5510
