Hi,
Generally when you purchase Smartnet Services for a NEW AIP-SSM module it will not have any license in it if it is brand new , however, with that Smartnet services contract that covers your AIP module you should be able to obtained an IPS license from Cisco systems download area , under licensing link bellow. You need CCO access. Simply go to bellow link and pick your platform from the list and provide AIP module serial number, the license for the AIP will be sent to you by email with instructions on how to install the lic through command line .

Hey,
If you have a Valid CCO, you can generate a trial license anyways in order to download the signature updates. You can ask the Cisco representative or The reseller that is giving you the product to see if it includes the smartnet with the license file for the IPS.
Mike.
