I realize that this is not exactly an apples to apples comparison but how would these two guys stack up (performance wise) as edge devices on my network. All I need is some basic firewall capability and one IPSec tunnel and both devices are capable of this. I also need just two ethernert interfaces, one for the ISP and one for the private LAN and both devices also have this.
I am figuring if performace is roughly the same I stick with what I know best which is the router. However if the ASA will give me better performance I will make the effort to learn and use it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Diego

ASA5510 will provide better performance compared to 1841 router.
Please find the following performance matrix for each device for your comparison:
ASA: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/prod_models_comparison.html#~mid-range
Hope that helps.
