We're considering getting a FirePOWER module for our ASA 5516-X. We'd like to use it primarily for Geo-Blocking. Can this be done from ASDM, without the Firewall Management Center? Also, are their limitations to using ASDM to manage FirePower, versus using the FirePOWER Management Center?

Yes you can configure Geo-blocking using ASDM. No Firepower Management Center (FMC) is required for that.
FMC gives you the ability to do detailed analysis of security events, historical reporting (vs. real time only in ASDM) and advanced configuration. It also allows re-use of objects and deployment of common policies to multiple devices. If you only need to do Geo-blocking on a single ASA Firepower service module it's not required.
