I have a basic 1841 with a 2MFT-T1-D1.
I got a request for a VPN and an IDS.
I bought an ASA 5510 and a IDS-4250.
in the documentation for the IDS 4250 i dont see a mention of the 1800 line, just older 2600 3600 plaforms.
before i spend time + buy extra ram - can anyone enlighten me?
am i wrong choosing 4250?

I am not sure if I follow the question correctly.
1. IPS is Intrusion prevention system.
2. IPS come as a hardware solution in terms of appliances which are IPS 42XX series (4240,4250.4270..etc)
3. IPS can also be a software only solution. In routers, we have a software implementation of IPS using the IOS only which is called IOS-IPS. This is a feature set included in the IOS that runs on routers.
1841 series router supports IOS-IPS.

Now are you looking are using IOS-IPS on your 1841?
Or your question is how a 4250 IPS Hardware can be connected/used beside your 1841 router ?
What documentation are you using for reference?

yes Siddharth
my question is "how a 4250 IPS Hardware can be connected/used beside your 1841 router " (or CAN it)
my 1841 IOS is: cisco.1841.ios.12.4.25a.advanced.enterprise.services-cisc
i used the following links (read briefly)
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ips/4.1/installation/guide/hw4235.html
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ips/4.1/quick/guide/15594_02.html
IOS-IPS is probably best but i read in forums it will give me a processor hit and will slow things down (especially on a lower end router such as the 1841).
i already bought a couple of 4250's and if i can make them work with the 1841 it will be best.
