Can my ASA 5505 really not handle more than 1 static IP address?

Hello,

This question comes from a non IT person so please forgive the ignorance.

We recently changed internet providers (POE to PPPOE) and I was told from the new provider that my ASA could authenticate the connection. I was then told by my IT manager that we needed to purchase an additional router because the ASA could only take one static IP address and we needed 4 total.

Is this true? Cisco's from what I am told are very powerful systems and it seemed odd that it wouldn't be able to handle such a thing.

I look your expertise for direction!

Thank you for your time!

Claudia

The ASA can handle multiple Static IP addresses. Just ask your ISP to associate the public IP's with the MAC address of your ASA. As long as the ISP sends the traffic for those four public IP's to your ASA, ASA will take care of delivering it to the actual devices. You need to configure NAT on the ASA to acheive this functionality though.

Hope this helps.

NT
