I'm getting ready to upgrade an old 5505 this weekend. Looking to verify the upgrade path I've researched. Current ASA/ASDM level is 8.3.1/6.3.1. Upgrade doc shows max level of 9.2.4/7.4.3+. I'm planning on using the ASDM upgrade wizard.
I've gathered I should upgrade the ASDM first. Upgrade doc lists 7.4.3+, so I'm planning on upgrading straight to 7.6.1.
ASA upgrade path is 8.3.x > 8.4.5 > 9.2.1+, so I'm planning to follow that and will be upgrading to 9.2.4 directly after 8.4.5. Then looking at upgrading to the latest 9.2.4 interim release afterwards. Or can I go straight from 8.4.5 to the latest 9.2.4 interim release? Any reason I should instead upgrade to 8.4.6 or 8.4.7 in the middle?

Hello,
For the ASDM part you can upgrade directly from 6.3.1 to 7.6.1, for the ASA software you can upgrade from 8.4.5 directly to the 9.2.4 interim release, some people prefer to use 8.4.7 software in the middle since it is known to be an stable software version of code.
Hope this helps.

hi,
you can't upgrade directly from 8.4(5) to 9.2(4). cisco recommends the upgrade path: 8.3(x) > 8.4(5) > 9.2(1) > 9.2(4).

i've upgrade a 5520 8.3 before and i believe 8.4(5) is NOT available the cisco download page anymore. i just upgraded from 8.3 to 8.4(6).
just note of the 512MB RAM requirement for running 9.x code.
