Downgrade ASA 5545 from 9.2(2)4 to 8.4(7)

Not applicable

Client has ASA 5520 on 8.4(7) and bought a new appliance 5545 which is on 9.2(2)4.

2 Questions.

1. Can i downgrade ASA 5545 to 8 version (8.6.1) the only 8X one avaiable only for ASA5545 and maintain license files? Do i have to backup those in 9.2? What's the procedure?

2. This is done to upload current ASA 5520 8.4  configuration to the ASA 5545 on version 8.6.. is this a correct approach? or this may not work? The main idea is to upgrade ASA 5545 to 9X afterwards hoping to migrate the 8X configuration as well (which is extense)/

I hope someone can advise..

Regards

Hello,

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I was in the understanding that the major version and changes took place at 8.3. Why do you need to downgrade to version 8.6 to upload configuration? According to the upgrade path of the ASA, you should be able to go directly from 8.4(5+) to 9.1(3) and later.

Have you already tried uploading the config file from the 5520 to the 5545? If so, did any errors or issues occur? I would recommend trying that before taking down the 5520 and downgrading the 5545.
