FPR-2130-ASA failover best practice with SSD replacement

HWAN

Level 1

Hi teams,

I'm running two FPR-2130-ASAs(Active/Standby).

By the way, standby ASA's SSD was failed last week. So, I could see SSD-led amber.

I got a new SSD part from Cisco TAC RMA service now.

In this situation, Can I know best practice failover step?

I think...

1. First of all, disabling failover configuration in primary ASA(using 'no failover' command).

2. Turn off standby ASA, replacing the SSD(delete and install).

3. Turn on standby ASA(make sure led status is okay)

4. re-configuring standby ASA(failover configuration..)

5. Enabling failover configuration in primary ASA(using 'failover' command)

Is it right?

After replacing the SSD, Do I have to re-install ASA OS?

And FXOS configuration also?

This is my first time. So, I'm worrying about it..

I'm not sure.. Please give me some tips!

Thank you.

High-level steps are correct.

couple of things i need to add here most important one is :

1. copy the running config out of the box using TFTP or USB

2. make a note of - show run failover

3. Make sure your new unit has FXOS updated as per the OLD Unit (if the cisco shipped over version)

4. Updated the ASA to correct inline with ASA working one

5. configure the new ASA basic wizrds of standard setup from console.

6. configure this on secondary :

#config t
ASA(config)# failover lan unit primary

Paste the show failover config (in related to interface and IP config and any preshared key.)  (except Failover command)

check the show failover config, should match same as primary ( except the roles)

7. connect the state link and other cables - and issue no shutdown on interface.

8. issue

config t

failover

!

end

you will see on the primary other mate detected and start synching the config.

check

show failover state (both)
