IDSM2 HD failed to initalize

I'm trying to recover the password from our IDSM2 and receive this message during the "upgrade". Anybody have an idea why?

Initializing the hard disk...

Available hard disk space is not sufficient for the IDS upgrade.

Failed to initialize hard disk.ERROR: Application installation has failed. View the upgrade log for details.

I'm running the the command :

ftp://ftp@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx//WS-SVC-IDSM2-K9-a-4.1 -4-S91a.bin.gz --install

I'm already running version 4.1.4

guest@idsm.localdomain#show images

Device name Partition# Image name

----------- ---------- ----------

Hard disk(hdd) 1 4.1(4)S113

Here is the ouput from the upgrade log:

Upgrading the line card on Thu May 26 13:57:07 UTC 2005

Downloaded upgrade image ftp://ftp@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx//WS-SVC-IDSM2-K9-a-4.1-1-S47.bin.gz

Proceeding with image upgrade.

The whole idea is to get up to version 5. Can I go striaght to 5.0.2? Guess not if my hard drive is too small.

I thought I'd try here before giving TAC a call.

Thanks

wes

Check this URL http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2113/products_password_recovery09186a0080094e83.shtml which has the step by step process for password recovery on IDSM.

That is the document I'm using. Please let me know if this is confusing because I'm stuck at the same point with Cisco TAC.

The orginal idea was to upgrade to 5.0...

I forgot the password so I started a password recovery

In the middle of the password recovery I'm getting the initalization error.

I'm at step 14 under the "Re-image for IDSM-2 with Switch that Runs Hybrid (CatOS) Code" section. "

I can't go onto step 15 (module shows fault)unless 14 finishes without errors.

Thanks

wes

This may sound crazy but...

Power down the module and remove it from the chassis. Leave it for 30 mins (we actually left ours out overnight). Re-insert module, power it up and try re-image again!

Worked for us. Apparently a known bug where the Hard Disk is not recognised.
