PIX 515 Password Recovery

I recently was givent he responsibility of a pair of PIX 515 which are running 6.3 software. I unfortunately needed to attempt a password recovery this morning and got an unexpected result.

During the recovery process I was prompted to see if I wanted to erase all passwords and it chose yes.

Thene the device showed me the following message:

password LKR)T)(*%&

enable password (#$($*%*%&%)$($

aaa server ssh console TACACS

aaa server local concole TACACS

Would you like to remove this configuration from the device ?

I again selected yes. I was then able to login tot he device with the default username/password. I immediately set my new password and enable password.

Once I logged out of the device and tried to log back in. It continued to be in initial mode and when i typed enable I was immediately prompted for a username and password and nothing worked.

What might I have missed ?
