Hi
I have got a PIX 520 that I cannot seem to get working.
The following message is displayed. Any ideas what the cause could be.
Cisco Secure PIX Firewall Version 5.3(2)
open(ffsdev/2/read) failed
An internal error occurred. Specifically, a programming assertion was
violated. Copy the error message exactly as it appears, and get the
output of the show version command and the contents of the configuration
file. Then call your technical support representative.
assertion "fdf_init()" failed: file "bh_main.c", line 149

Looks like your flash is hosed. Have you recently added a new flash card or made any changes to this PIX? You probably need to open a TAC case and provide all the details above. If during the bootup process the PIX displays a "sho ver" type output, include that in the case notes (it usually displays this before showing the errors you're seeing).

Are you trying to boot to ROMMON with the boot helper on a floopy?
I'd download a new boothelper and try to get to ROMMON, from there you can reflash the IOS. If that doesn't help then use the erase disk and completely hose the IOS, leaving you in ROMMON. From there you can reflash the IOS.
I also agree you need to open a TAC case to get the files and support you need.
