We try to implement PIX Failover using the existing LAN - both boxes are located in two different rooms which can NOT be reached via this serial cable (which is about 1.5 meters)
Can anyone give me a good advice how we could realize the failover scenario.
Thx
Hans

The failover cable is a must have. the 100BaseT is for statefull failover. But you must use the failover cable to connect the two PIX. you may need to contact Cisco and see if they have longer cable. I don't know there is any other way to avoid using the failover cable.

I have heard that the next version of software 6.2 will not need the failover cable but rather only the cat 5 that is used for stateful failover.

You can make your own cable, the pinout directions are in the link here

I have a failover that's about 25ft and working fine. The stateful failover requires the serial cable be connected have a dedicated ethernet port on each PIX and have IOS 5.0 or better.
