I've found that I need the correct licence/liecences to do failover. However, I can't find out how to check if we already have the correct licences and how to GET the upgraded licence if not.

you need to have a PIX UR license to do failover. You can verify this from the show version command in the pix.. if u have a restricted one, you can upgrade it to the UR (unrestricted) license by buying the upgrade pack from cisco partners.

how do you upgrade the licence into the PIX?
Is there a key to enter (which command line?)
or a file to download into PIX (how to do that?)

You need to purchase an upgrade to your existing key to move from a Restricted Version to an Unrestricted Version, if that's the type of upgrade you require.
If you would like to add Des or 3des to an existing Pix, you can fill out a form on cisco.com.
The license key can be applied from a file that you receive via e-mail (once you fill out a form on cisco.com).
activation-key is the command line for most OS version of the Pix software.
