Hello,
we have the problem, that a few server OSs are not correctly identified.
Some of them are ESX hosts, some are appliances like CUCM.
Is there any best practice or recommendation of solving this? I know I could start NMAP, fingerprint the server or set the OS manually, but is there a recommended order of trying those techniques?
Which one has the best chances of identifying those types of servers?
Is there a reason why under the manual option of setting the OS there is no ESX Server Version 5? I just see v2 und v4...?
Thank you!
BR,
T.

I highly recommend doing everything manually if you have got the time and know everything about all hosts and protocols. It gives the most precise results. Whitelisting profiles can help you spotting every used protocol.
NMAP scanning is a good way to make the passive discovery more precise.
I guess that the VDB is not updated with the newer versions of ESXi which is a shame.
